What is orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment involves wearing braces to straighten the teeth and correct the bite. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the diagnosis and identification of facial disharmony and dental abnormality, as well as the design and use of a wide range of braces.
What are the benefits of orthodontic treatment?
In short a beautiful smile to be proud of! If your teeth are crooked, crowded, protruding or you have gaps between them you would benefit from orthodontic treatment. If you are hesitant to smile, laugh or even talk in public without hiding your teeth, orthodontics could prove life changing. Straight healthy teeth look great and are easier to clean, prolonging their life and reducing the chances of disease. Most importantly you can feel good about smiling, improving your confidence and self-esteem.
Can anybody be treated?
Yes, both adults and children can benefit from orthodontic treatment and at any age too. For children orthodontic treatment is most successful when carried out in the teenage years. For adults it's never too late for treatment - our oldest patient is in their 60's.
What is a specialist orthodontist?

Will I need to have teeth taken out?
In certain circumstances teeth will need to be taken out. However, using the latest techniques, in the vast majority of cases you will not need to have teeth extracted.
What will happen at my first appointment?
This initial consultation will take approximately 20-30 minutes. A brace will not be fitted at this session. At this stage we will plan your treatment and discuss any concerns you have. We may take models of your teeth, photographs and possibly some x-rays. Your treatment will be tailored to your individual need.
What will my treatment consist of?
Treatment involves wearing a brace that is custom made for you. Please see "State of the Art" for the types of brace we can offer. Depending on your treatment, the brace can move your teeth into position; guide the way your jaw grows, or even widen your jaw to make room for crowded teeth. It may be necessary to extract teeth if your mouth is very crowded, however this is relatively rare.
Will it hurt?
No, but after fitting your brace your teeth may well feel a little tender, this may last for up to three to four days.
Will the brace affect my speech?
No. However, you may experience a temporary change in speech with lingual braces.
Will I be able to clean my teeth?
You will need to spend more time to keep your teeth clean. It is important to maintain a good standard of oral hygiene in order to achieve the best results.
How long will treatment take?
Treatment usually takes 6 to 24 months to complete, followed by a period of wearing retainers to keep the teeth straight.
How much will treatment cost?
Treatment fees vary depending on the type and complexity of treatment and this is different for each individual patient. We will give you an estimate at your initial consultation. Affordable interest free payment plans are available allowing you to spread the cost of your treatment. Alternatively, a discount is available for pre-payment.
